Saginaw and Manistee Lumber Company Shay #4
The engine has unusually small lettering: the company name is abbreviated and was probably done at the time that the Saginaw and Manistee leased the Flagstaff operation. The lettering was not corrected to the later font used on other locomotives. Taking a closer look, the engine appears to be out of service, as the side air tank and foot boards are missing. Image was taken outside the mill in Flagstaff, Arizona. Note the unusual windows; according to the source these are known as "Coffin Windows."
